Judgement at Nuremberg
Among the good things of this 2008, I report the discovery of Steve Buscemi as a director. I recorded from TV a few months ago, without too many expectations, his first work, barfly, being especially impressed by his very personal style. Given his track record as an actor, I was expecting heavy influences Quentin Tarantino. None of this, although a little something to show that they learned from Coen, especially in the way of representing the province of America (also see Lonesome Jim). Reserving the right to see Animal Factory, his best work to date is the last Interview (Steve Buscemi - 2007), who is also writer and performer. He is a journalist of international political problems, which are served up interviews with celebrities and TV stars. He finds himself to interview Katya, actress on the crest of the wave, with which it ends up fighting quickly. The two will meet, however, due to a number of circumstances, the girl in the apartment where they will start an intensive dialogue, full of low blows, in which each will try to reveal the dark sides of his party. It is a film with only two characters, essentially without action, in an enclosed space, but that does not even have a rhythm or a drop dead time. Especially on the two actors, but also a very dynamic director, who often uses the car to the shoulder, with rapid changes of shot to accompany the exchange of the two protagonists. The color photography based on very hot (and lots of candles) to create the right atmosphere and does not weigh the almost total absence of the soundtrack.
