What To Do With A Broken Plasma Ball
I do not like the movie review I've seen, except in exceptional cases. If I have time to see something I prefer to spend it on something new. And I do not mean new or just recently released. That said, I happened to review The Big Lebowski ( Joel and Ethan Coen - 1998). I had seen long ago when even the Coen not know practically nothing and I wanted to see him now. Beyond the brilliance of the characters, dell'abilissimo delusional control script, the witty dialogue, I was struck by one thing: the opening credits, made with great elegance, with a perfect choice of text characters, music and images that accompany them. Few filmmakers treat this part of the film, especially for budget reasons ( Woody Allen for example is limited to a simple black background and white font with background jazz), but it is an important part: the titles are the first Contact the viewer with the film, often allow him to understand what kind of film to expect. Saul Bass was the first to understand fully the importance and created a memorable, including Psycho, Spartacus and Casino. But personally I still prefer those of Once Upon a Time in the West.
