Between Kafka and Dostoevsky
Trevor Reznik, a factory worker in mechanics (hence the original title), can not sleep for a year, devoured by a mysterious obsession that causes visions and paranoia. The Machinist (Brad Anderson - 2004) is a thriller not too visionary in the original script, but valuable in the staging. The desaturated photography and lighting can create the right atmosphere hallucinations, which surrounds the main character helping to maintain pace and tension on a good level throughout the film. The interpretation of awesome Christian Bale (in thin layers from anorexia to join the party) does the rest. A few tips here and there can help him witty observer to solve the mystery before the end credits. Curious and interesting choice to shoot the exteriors in Barcelona and surroundings, although the setting is that of an American city.
